The Inspector Panel -> Info Tab

The info tab allows you to view and edit the information attached to symbols and position lines. Double-click a value to edit it.

The fields displayed depend on what objects are selected. Positions have different information than symbols. Symbols themselves vary in the information available depending on what kind of light they represent. You can hide and show categories of information by clicking on the small triangle next to the category name.

If there is more than one object selected and the values for a property are not the same, the property name will be followed by "(...)". Editing a value changes that property for all selected objects.

The check box to the right of each field allows you to display that field in a text object which then appears on the drawing. This text object can be edited and moved but remains associated with it's "owner". Changing the text in a field changes the associated info property. Moving the "owner" also moves any text fields associated with it. You can adjust the locations of text objects created by similar fields using the Format menu's Copy Field Locations and Paste Field Locations commands.

If there is more than one object selected, checking or unchecking the draw box will cause text objects to be created or removed for all the selected objects that contain that field.

The tab key will advance the selected row. The return key will initiate editing of the value of the selected row.

A contextual menu related to individual properties can be shown by right-clicking on the name of the field in the left column of the info table when the row for the property is selected. (Holding down the control key while clicking is the same as a right-click.)

This popup contextual menu lets you select commands related to the text field displayed in the drawing. For example, you can select a displayed info field using the popup, even when selection by clicking is disabled. You can also choose to reset the location of a displayed field, or to paste its location (relative to the owning object) that has been copied from another object.

The contextual menu also provides access to editing some properties that contain multiple settings or are not easily edited directly in a table cell. Double-clicking a property name is a shortcut to selecting Edit from the contextual menu.

Fields that have multiple settings include the device parameters and rendering properties. Device parameters include values that specify the orientation of a moving fixture.

The rendering field includes settings for displaying simulated shutter cuts. It also has options for using a light's template field as a mask pattern when rendering the light in the model window. The mask option also allows simulation of an oval beam in the model window.

Keyboard Shortcuts

LXBeams responds to shortcut keys (see table below) that cause the inspector to jump to editing the corresponding info property for selected symbols. These shortcuts are available when the top active window is a plot window containing selected symbols.

For example, pressing the "c" key will cause the inspector to jump to editing the selected symbol's channel field. The same result could be achieved by clicking on to the info tab and double clicking the value of the channel field.

Key   Field
kColor
cChannel
pCircuit
mDimmer
tTemplate
uUse
gGroup

The capital letter (shift+key) will toggle the display of the field, equivalent to checking the box in the inspector.

For example, pressing C (shift+"c") will cause the inspector to toggle the display of the selected symbol's channel field.
