The Tools Panel -> Selection Tool ![]() Clicking on a graphic with the selection arrow will cause small square gray "handles" to appear indicating that the object is selected. Clicking and dragging the selection arrow will create a rectangular "marquee". Any graphics inside or intersecting the marquee will be selected. You can add to, or subtract from the current selection by holding down the shift key when clicking on an object. Once a graphic is selected, you can alter the object's properties using the inspector. You can change the size of a selected object by clicking inside one of its "handles" and dragging. Or, you can move the entire object by clicking on it and dragging. (If multiple objects are selected, they will all move.) Modifying the Selection Tool With Keys When resizing an object by dragging one of its handles, holding down the shift key may constrain its size. For instance, this will cause an imported or grouped graphic to retain its original aspect ratio. Occasionally, text fields can be placed so close to a symbol that it is difficult to select the symbol without selecting a field. Holding down the option key and clicking on a text field will select the symbol or position to which it belongs. Graphics can be "grouped" so that they move as a single unit. Sometimes however, you may wish to select an object that is part of a group. Holding down the option key and clicking on a grouped object will allow you to select it directly. The selection arrow tool can be selected by pressing the "1" key when a plot window is the front window. |
