The Toolbar

The drawing tools in LXFree for Java, like those in many other applications, allow you to draw and manipulate graphics by clicking and dragging the mouse. You select the tool you want to use by clicking on the icon.

The first tool at the top of the panel is the selection arrow. It is used to edit existing graphic objects either by selecting them for some operation or by moving or resizing them directly. The remaining 7 tools are used to draw different types of graphic objects.

You create a graphic using one of the 7 drawing tools by clicking and dragging. Once you let up on the mouse, the tool will switch to the selection arrow. The newly created graphic will selected for further editing.

If you want to draw a number of the same shapes in succession, double-click the tool icon and that tool will remain active until you choose something else. (Newly created shapes will not be selected in this mode.)

Layers Menu

Next to the tool buttons is a popup menu that allows you to select the current layer in the drawing. Layers are set up in the Document tab of the Inspector panel.

Views Menu

Next to the layers menu is a popup menu that allows you to select a saved view of the drawing. Saved views are created using the View->Views menu. Saved views remember a number of viewing options such as zoom, scroll location and the current layer. When you recall a saved view from the views popup menu, all these settings are restored at the same time.

Mouse Coordinates

The coordinates of the mouse cursor are displayed to the right of the Layers menu. The cartesian coordinate system including the units and origin are setup in the Inspector's Document tab.
