Live Trigger with function keys.

Postby Johan Söderberg » Mon Sep 08, 2025 8:32 pm

I have a friend who recently bought two remote triggers to run qlab from his left pocket and LXConsole from his right pocket.
The transmitters send different keystrokes: F1 and F2.
This works nicely as a trigger in Qlabs live settings but LXConsole doesn't seem to recognize any of those two keystrokes.

Can that be fixed somehow or does he have to return and reprogram his transmitters?

F1 and F2 work for me. They will only work when the main view has keyboard focus. If you are setting them in the preferences/settings Live tab, it is possible that the main window is not receiving the key pressed events. Try clicking the main display and then send F1 or F2.

You probably already know, but it is usually necessary to press the fn key along with the function key to generate a function key press. There is a setting (On MacOS 15 it is called function keys) that allows function keys to behave as function keys not brightness, volume, etc. When you are capturing the key in the preferences/settings Live tab, you need to be sure you are actually getting function key behavior correctly.

BTW F1 is the menu shortcut for Help. If the main display is not capturing keypresses, you may get the help window when triggering an F1 event.

Yes, works for me as well typing F1 on the keyboarwhen I test it.

My friend though uses his remote controls to send the keystrokes.
I think the confusion is that when he pushes his F2 button to trigger Qlab, Qlab shows "F2" as trigger to run a GO command.
In LXConsoles live settings window it shows "other" not "F1" or "F2". But it seems to work anyway :-)
I'll send him a copy of this conversation and hopefully he´ll get it to work.

Probably he just didnt know that he needs to be in the Main display to trigger live cues.

And since I get it to work now that I´m testing it at home, Im sure i'll be able to help him out next week.
He´s going to run his show for the first time next tuesday...

So a great Thank you for your rapid reply as always :-)
