multi line text

Postby sstaub » Tue Jul 11, 2023 2:32 pm

Is it possible have a text tool with more than one line? Maybe it is possible now but I don't know how.

What you are probably looking for is a styled text box. Either with the popup in the toolbar or with the Format menu, select TextTool->Styled or Format->Tool->TextTool->Styled. This allows you to draw text with paragraph style formatting. Editing a styled text field does not stop until you click outside the box, rather than being terminated by the [return] or [enter] key.

Alternatively, if you want more than one line in any plain text field, including an info field, use the [option] key + [return] to create a new line. The option key is necessary because return by itself closes editing.

If you want more than one line in an info field you can also right-click or [control]-click on the field name in the first column of the info table to bring up an editing box that does not close when you use the [return] key.

Thank you for the advices. But it it seems the text alignment (center ...) doesn't work with multiline texts.
Another thing, it would helpful to see the cursor (blinking line) while editing the text.

I'm not sure about the blinking cursor problem. You can post the version of LXBeams and the version of MacOS and we can take a look to see if it can be replicated.

If you use a multi-line plain text field, all the lines will align to the same left edge. Center alignment will just center this within the box. To get center alignment with different edges for each line, it is necessary to use a styled text field and paragraph style alignment. With styled text fields, individual lines can even have different alignments, as well as different fonts, text styles, etc.

The missing cursor is only on "dark mode" for plain text. In styled text the cursor is visible. (latest version of macOS and LXBeams).

I believe this is fixed in the latest build, Version 6.5.0 (19814.1).
