Line Tool

The Line tool can be selected by pressing the "6" key.

The line tool will draw a line from a starting point to an end point as you click and drag. The stroke characteristics of the line, including its style--plain, dashed, etc.--are controlled by the inspector's Drawing tab. The location of the start and end as well as the line's length can also be edited using the measurement table in the inspector's drawing tab

Lines can have different styles which are set by the popup menu in the Line area of the inspector's Drawing tab.

Lines that are created with one of the two dimension styles are "dimension lines" and display their length in a text field. If a line is created as a dimension line, it remains a demension line even if you change its style. You can, for example, change the style a dimension line to a dashed style and have a dashed dimension line. If a line is created as a non-dimension line, it will become a dimension line if you change its style to one of the dimension styles. To convert a dimension line to a plain line with a dimension style, use the Format->Convert->Dimension to Line command.
